What’s up family?

Let me say up front that if you’re looking for someone to help your answer  questions about code or give a tutorial on API systems…pump ya breaks I’m not that dude. On the other hand if you are looking for someone to share what little he knows about some Tech (my definition of Tech is anything that’s a gadget, hardware or software that is Hot!) Then check me out every Wednesday and I will attempt to share something interesting.

So to kick things off I wanted spend some time on some Tech that I really believe will change the GAME! Google Wave. Google Wave is like the cassette version of the Sony Walkman vs the iPod. To put it in simple terms it’s going to change how people communicate, it’s email (when I say email that includes phones) on steroids.  Google Wave was invented by the same two guys that brought us “Google Maps” Lars and Jens Rasmussen and like most things made by Google it’s free, as a matter of fact it’s better than free it’s open source…meaning that Google invites others to use and shape the technology to create new software for their own benefit.

Open-source is central to Google’s strategy to encourage quick adoption. And if people start using or even switching over to Google Wave, then it will be the game-changing communication tool, that next “big thing” everyone has been waiting for. So here are the Top 5 reasons I think Google Wave will change the game!

1.       Feature: Wiki -Style functionality

While Google Wave works a lot like email or IM, there is a huge difference: you can edit not only your messages, but the messages of everybody within your wave. You can reply to messages within a conversation thread and reorganize conversations.

Why it will change the game:

There was a perfect example of how this changes communication during Google’s demo of the product. A group of people are trying to make dinner plans, and want to see who is open to going. In email, you would have a string of emails reading yes or no, which can get lil crazy.

In Wave, you can edit the original message with a section showing who can or can’t go. Replies can be made within a conversation thread, rather than at the end, making conversations a lot easier to track.

2.      Feature: Wave Extensions

Wave extensions are 3rd-party improvements or applications within Google Wave. There are two types: gadgets and robots. Gadgets are just like Facebook applications, so you can run an app like an online game or a project management tool from within Wave. Robots are smart, automated conversation participants. They can detect keywords and respond, bring in outside information from services like Twitter and also do real time language translations (40 languages available) in real time.

Why it will change the game:

It’s game-changing just like the Facebook platform or the Twitter app craze has been paradigm-shifting for both companies. Imagine only needing to have Google Wave open to manage your Facebook, Twitter, project management, email, and even your video games. You can make Google Wave your all-in-one communication tool.

3.      Feature: Drag and Drop File Uploads

In email, you have to search for files, and then attach them before sending. Then you need to open them up when you actually receive the email. Google Wave skips that entire process by allowing users to drag files from the desktop and dropping them. Anyone can then see the files as they’re being uploaded. Images are shown in an album format, music can be played, and docs can be quickly shared.

Why it will change the game:

Drag-and-drop file uploads makes Google Wave not only a communication platform, but a useful project management system. Companies could use Google Wave as their communication and file-sharing platform. Combined with Wave Extensions, you could build an entire project management platform and time management system better than anything on the market.

4.      Feature: Wave Embeds

Is just like what it says…you can embed any wave into a website. Embeds can be customized and used for multiple solutions.

Why it will change the game:

Embedding is not only an easy way for millions to share a conversation; it will also make many forms of current communication obsolete. Instead of chatrooms you can add a Wave to you company’s website and do customer service through it. Instead of a regular comments page you can have real time conversations via Waves. Conversations are simple to have with shared embeds.

5.      Feature: Play Back

This is big…If you’re added to an email conversation late into the game, it can be a pain to scroll all of the back-and-forth within an email conversation. With Wave’s playback feature, you can actually see how the entire conversation developed from the start, making it incredibly easy to catch up on the back and forth.

Why it will change the game:

Playback clarifies any conversation and makes it simple to get anyone up-to-speed. Instead of “check your email,” it will become “just run that Wave back” and you will have all the info that you need. You could get someone up-to-speed within minutes, rather than hours.

So after all that you’re wondering how do I get it?! Go to and sign up don’t sleep the first 100,000.00 accounts are released on the 30th of this month!
