Years ago, my BFF Sheeri Mitchell (yes THE Sheeri Mitchell from elev8.com), invited me to take a look at a book she had been introduced to called, “Eat Right 4 Your Type The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longer & Achieving Your Ideal Weight,” by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo. Inside the book are 4 diets for the 4 blood types.

I remember the day she called, she said, “Hey…what’s your blood type?”  I’m not sure that I knew at that time but I was eager to find out after she explained the value of the book she was reading.  There was a slight irony in that I was scheduled to have my blood drawn within a few days and that was my opportunity not to forget to ask them to tell me what type I am.  The results came back “A.”  Sheeri then faxed me the diet that was most beneficial for “A” blood types and I dove right in.  I really wanted to know if there was any validity to what Dr. D’Adamo recorded.  He suggests foods that are highly beneficial, neutral and those that should be avoided for each type.  So…for one month, I eliminated everything the doctor suggested I take out and or replace and surprising, I felt amazing.  I didn’t think to weight myself because my concern was directed toward my allergies, but I probably lost a couple, two or three pounds.  I know for certain that I wasn’t sneezing as much and the mucous (sorry) wasn’t as plentiful.  I know you really wanted to hear that right.  Anywho…after that month, I went back to eating what I was familiar and the results were immediate.  Aaaa-chew!  I was sneezing and weazing like crazy.  I then realized that there were certain foods that I was eating that I had no idea were exacerbating my allergies.  I had to cut it out and pay attention to my body.

Over the years, I have teetered back and forth with Dr. D’Adamo’s suggestions.  When I have strayed, I’ve paid the price.   I can feel the shift in my body chemistry and I am aware at just how long it will take to recover.  My conscious mind is well aware of what is good for my body and what is not, yet I still indulge.  I still haven’t mastered the self discipline I need to live a lifestyle that can ultimately keep me in premium condition but I’m working on it.  I am far more cognizant of what is right to eat than ever before.
