Last night, police found five people dead at a South Valley home in the 2800 block of Long Lane SW.
A man, a woman, two girls and a boy were found in the home with several gunshot wounds.
Officials have indentified the victims as Greg Griego, 51; his wife Sara Griego, 40; and three of their children, Zephania Griego, 9; Jael Griego, 5; and Angelina Griego, 2.
Shortly after 1 p.m. police identified the shooter as 15-year-old as Nehemiah Griego – Greg Griego’s son. Police believe the teenager used an AR-15 semi automatic rifle in the shooting. Multiple weapons were retrieved from the house. Early reports say Nehemiah Griego called someone after the incident, and that person called 911. Greg Griego is the brother of former state Sen. Eric Griego.
The family released the following statement.
“Our family is grieving this terrible tragedy. We appreciate the prayers and support we have received and request that the media honor our family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
He and his family are also well-known among a local Christian faith community in Albuquerque. For years, Griego was a pastor at Calvary on Osuna. Members of the faith community were crying Sunday – their hearts broken as they heard the shocking news. Griego is being remembered as a kind-hearted, family man. During his years of service at one of Albuquerque’s biggest churches, he was not only a pastor, but also had a profound impact in jail ministry and chaplain programs.
