Ok…It’s another Friday. It’s another weekend, another end of the week. I have been given to spend with family. But, what good is another Friday to take time with family, if all that blankets me is the problems, stresses, and difficulties that life brings.
When is enough…enough! What about rest and relaxation. What happen to good times are here now? Where are the easy streets? Sometimes the problems are huge and sometimes the problems are small. But, where is the rest, Lord? Where is my rest?
Bumping my head against the wall many different times has assured me that there will be problems in my life. Ok so maybe I could alleviate those problems by simply not bumping my head. But, sometimes, there are problems, situations, stresses that I did not see coming…that I could not avoid. I would have had to be God to make sure that I did not end up in those problems.
So a long time ago, I became a born again Christian. I decided I wanted a closer walk with the Lord so that I would have his perspective on my life. And, I would hold on tight to Him, so close in fact that I would be able to see the hills, valleys, and mountains of life before I reached them. But, guess what? I still fell into different difficulties. Why Lord, why?
Well, of course my Lord had an answer. He pointed me to James 1:2-4 which says “my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
God wants me to be complete. Oh great something else that I must attain. But you know what? It’s more than that – it is not something that I can obtain on my own. It is something God must want for me. And those things that God wants for me He will provide them…like patience.
God wants me to have patience. And, God tells us in James that the only way to get patience is to test your faith. And, the only way to test your faith is for you to go through many different trials (difficulties, tribulations, problems…you know what I’m sayin’). So God sets up these different situations so that you can increase your faith in Him. So that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He is God above all.
Ok…I’ll bite…How does God wants me to respond when I go through these trying times that make my head hurt and turn me against my family? He wants me to face them with pure joy. Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that “…the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Having pure joy which is the joy of the Lord gives us a strength that no one understand. It makes us stand under great circumstances that others would crumble under. Not because we are doing it under our power but because we are standing in the Lord’s power.
And, God does not want us to go blindly into our situations and problems. He wants us to know that they are coming which He tell us just that in James. Since we know that problems are coming, we are responsible for anticipating the certainty of them and responding to them correctly.
Since we know that trials are coming then we should be prepared for them. How do we prepare? We need to say to our spouses and family that no problem, situation or trial will tear me away from you. We should repeat to them that there may be tribulations in our lives but with God we can conquer all. And, let’s have a “problem plan” so when we do get into tight spots, we can move through together with God and keep our relationship intact and in better position.
Yes God does want us to be complete. Completion in Him is to have lack of nothing. Wow…lack of nothing. Wouldn’t that be great? So guess what? It’s Friday y’all. And, I am going to do what God wants me and not let these situations get in the middle of my familial relationships. So, I will stand in God’s strength and leave the solutions to Him. And, I will go and enjoy my husband, my family, and my weekend. And, all I can say to that is “THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!”
