Abortion versus animal rights was a theme on Hollywood Exes.

It has long been a mystery to many pro-lifers why so-called animal rights advocates can be so concerned about the lives of animals yet in many cases justify aborting the lives of prenatal human babies.

Every reason to have an abortion is a good one to the person who wants one and there is only one overwhelming reason not to they they don’t want to. Their philosophy is that fundamental human rights are not intrinsic with human lives but granted or denied by whatever criteria the individual can choose to recognize. It is simply “might” makes right dressed up in the politically correct fads and rationalizations of our modern day. That may be a little harsh, but that is what it boils down to.  The state of one’s life is what determines whether or not life will continue. Otherise it is just a blob of tissues that is an inconvenience. (Footnote: census says number 1 reason to not have a child is economic, not health see World Health Organization website.)

To the animal rights advocates the key criterion for rationalizing the dehumanization and destruction of others (in this case the unborn) is cognition or sentience — the capability to sense or feel. They see many higher forms of animal life as possessing this capability and prenatal human lives as lacking it in the earliest stages. To be more charitable about it, they have some real difficulty identifying with the unborn baby as one of us. This was definitely the case on the show.

Now, having said all that watching Sheree Fletcher, Will Smith’s ex, take exception with Jessica Canseco, ex-wife of Jose Canseco for aborting her child was interesting. This is definitely one debate no one saw coming on reality TV. Though, we did see Joseline of Love & Hip Hop abort her baby.  The issue would never have become an issue  if Jessica had not informed everyone  that,  “I cannot kill a living thing. I can’t kill a living thing. Even a cockroach has a family.”

The argument started when Jessica commanded that Sheree “not to eat veal” Jessica critiques everyone’s plate. Sheree taking exception with Jessica’s demand not only wants to out her but clarify that her thinking was off.  Sheree insists her that her abortion is just another nail in her hypocrisy of “what to kill” versus “not to kill”.  “It’s not humane to end anyone’s life.” Jessica might want to evaluate disposal of life. If you are pro-life, than you are prolife not pro-life on a fence.

This argument talks you back to the signs we see all across the country. A Florida beach has signs that say:  “Attention Beach Users.  Help protect endangered sea turtles.  Avoid disturbing nesting females.  Leave eggs, nests, and hatchlings undisturbed….Sea turtles are protected by county, state, and federal law.  Fines up to $20,000.”

Great, so let’s fine people thousands of dollars for even daring to disturb a baby sea turtle, but let’s freely let mothers kill their human children any time they want.  The blatant inconsistency is what disturbs me.

God has granted man dominion over the earth and everything upon it.

In Case you were wondering, PETA’s view on abortion is as follows: PETA does not have a position on the abortion issue, because our focus as an organization is the alleviation of the suffering inflicted on nonhuman animals. There are people on both sides of the abortion issue in the animal rights movement, just as there are people on both sides of animal rights issues in the pro-life movement. And just as the pro-life movement has no official position on animal rights, neither does the animal rights movement have an official position on abortion.

What do you think?
