Visions are dreams that can come true.
Thirty days after MaLinda passed away, I decided that I wouldn’t allow our dream to die with her.
I met with her assistant and we reorganized, retooled and resumed pursuing the concept of the Charter School that MaLinda and I initially planned. Finally, in 2012, it is coming to fruition as the Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology recently received its charter school contract and will be one of 20 charter schools opening in Michigan this year. The school will open to 6, 7 and 8 graders this Fall. As part of establishing MaLinda’s legacy, the 1200 seat performing arts center at the school will be called the Dr. MaLinda P. Sapp Performing Arts Center.

I want you to know that it is important to not only have vision, but to put your vision on paper. The bible says we are to write the vision and make it plain, on tablets so that those who read it can run with it. MaLinda and I did not just talk about our vision, we wrote it out so that we could read it on a consistent basis. This way, when we became discouraged we could go back and read it and have it propel us forward. This way, also, there was a blueprint once MaLinda was no longer here.

A big mistake that many people make is that they SAY what they are going to do, but they never WRITE what they are going to do. You can’t run with what you don’t read. Writing it out makes it real, it reminds you of what you said you were going to do.
