Twelve years and two children later, the 36-year-old Grammy nominated vocalist is proving that life with a professional athlete isn’t as messy as it seems.

She recently sat down with BlackVoices to discuss her latest single “Beautiful Surprise,” how she keeps her marriage alive and how she really feels about the Basketball Wives franchise.

BlackVoices: What has been the response to your new single, “Beautiful Surprise”?

Tamia: It’s awesome! Today I just found out that it was the number one most-added at Urban A/C, so I’m excited. It feels good to sort of get back to music.

BV: What are some things that you guys do to help keep your marriage thriving?

T: I always say, “What works in one marriage may not work in the next. So definitely keep your eyes focused on your own relationship.” I think it’s important to understand that you guys are going to grow. Obviously, I’m not the same person that I was at 24, and he’s not the same person that he was. But we also together allowed each other to grow as well and stay connected at the same time. And I think that’s important. And obviously, communication is super important. And at the end of the day we just love being with each other and being really good friends. Click here to read more
