Federal agents have arrested four men allegedly involved in a home-grown terror plot targeting Jewish synagogues and military aircraft in the New York area.
The investigation began last June and culminated last night when police arrested the four men. They were allegedly planting fake explosives around two Bronx synagogues, Riverdale Temple and the Riverdale Jewish Center.
The city police commissioner said the men wanted to commit jihad.
“They planted satchels or bags, what they believed to be, to contain explosives in front of 2 Jewish temples,” the FBI’s Joseph Demarest said.
“This latest attempt to attack our freedoms shows that the homeland security threats against New York City are sadly all too real and underscores why we must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent terrorism,” New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement.
