MAC cosmetics listened to the nearly 40,000 people that signed a Change.org petition to get the late Tejano songstress, Selena Quintanilla her own line of lipsticks.
Nearly 21 years after Selena’s untimely death, a new generation of fans have become enamored with Selena’s style from her high-waisted pants, long brunette hair and bright red lips.
Now MAC has announced that the new pinkish/red lipstick named after one of Selena’s many hits, ‘Como La Flor’ will be released in October.
“Selena’s vivacious music and style lives on through the passion of her fans and her impact on Latin beauty and culture,” said the brand in a press release obtained by Teen Vogue. “’Como La Flor’ is just a sneak peek of a multi-product deco collection that was curated with Selena’s sister Suzette.”
The Grammy Award winning singer’s sister shared her excitement to keep Selena’s memory alive through the collection.
“I wanted the colors to be about her personally, what she wore on and offstage. She has been gone for 21 years already, and for this collaboration to happen, it’s pretty much incredible” said Suzette.
“It just shows the love her fan base has even though she’s gone; that her music still lives on and her legacy has grown tremendously since she’s passed. It’s a great honor to have MAC collaborate with Selena’s name and her fans — FOR her fans.”
