Black_baby_cryingFirst, I feel the need to explain what eczema is and what the symptoms are.  Eczema is an itchy, non contagious inflammation of the skin.  It can appear leathery and thick.  Eczema begins as intense itching followed by a patchy rash that is red, inflammed and scaly.  According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease, more than 15 million people in the United States have symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema).

I am qualified to have this discussion with you because I have a 6 year old who I battled the disease with since he was born til he was 10 months.  He was born with it and his skin would itch and would be red, dry and scaly.  We visited the pediatrician and she prescribed prescription elidel.  At the time, I did not the dangers of the steroid cream.  We used everything to fight it including Aveeno, Aveeno with oatmeal, cetaphil soap, and Eucerin.  It would go away and return and we did this dance for 10 months of his life and my husband and I were very concerned because our kids had a career in modeling.  My son even had a patch about the size of a quarter on the side of his face.  I was introduced to a safer way to handle eczema when he was 10 months and to our surprise it cleared up in a week and a half.  We switched over our laundry detergent, I was using dreft which I thought was safe, it would irritate his skin.  The detergent we use now has no phosphates or fillers.  We switched his soap to french milled bath bars with glycerin and allantoin and we used a lotion that beat out Eucerin by 7 times and now is clinically proven to moisturize and keep skin looking softer and smoother in just 24 hours.  We are so grateful that we found a solution to the problem.

So many people are embarrassed due to the condition of their skin caused by eczema.  Do you wear long sleeve shirts to cover up your dry patches? Do you scratch uncontrollably?  Does your skin itch all day?  If so, we are here to tell you that you do not have to suffer no more.  There are safe ways to eliminate eczema.  According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, contact dermatitis and eczema are responsible for over 7 million healthcare provider visits.  They prescribe a steroid and I bet you don’t know that it is harmful to your skin.  Elidel was thinning my son’s skin and it had a recall on it because they neglected to inform us that it could cause cancer.  We didn’t want to use anything that was unsafe and harmful to our child.  You cannot tell that my son ever had eczema.  We have so mnay happy parents now because they did exactly what we told them to do.

I will share a great story with you.  My girlfriend called us last week thrilled and ecstatic because her 2 year old who could only bathe in water can now take a real bath.  She would break out from lotions, soaps and bubble bath before.  Her entire body would break out in hives and she would itch.  In just 1 week, she can be a normal 2 year old, you know kids love bath time.  They are grateful and excited that they found a solution to their problem.  It is about simple education and knowing your facts.  Know what you are using on your body.  Know the ingredients and know that you do not have to suffer any longer.  Our skin is our largest organ and we should treat it with proper care.

Eczema is a forever growing epidemic, I wrote this article because the subject is so near and dear to my heart.  I have helped so many families and I know I can help you too.
