In my last article I went after your milk. In this article I’m doing the unthinkable, I’m going after your coffee. Coffee is a drink many people claim they cannot start their day without. Building a case against coffee is a tall order when you look at the statistics. Over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed yearly. Americans drink 400 million cups of coffee a day. If you’re a regular coffee drinker you will drink 10lbs worth of coffee this year. I don’t drink coffee so I have to ask, what’s the big deal?
Everyone that I know who drinks coffee for the so called energy boost. Actually there is no real energy boost. All you’re really experiencing is your body reacting to the effects of a drug. I will tell you later how to get a true energy boost that works with your body. Caffeine alters your body’s performance it also has a number of negative side effects.
- Dehydration
- Increase Cholesterol
- Alter Insulin Levels
- Increase Risk Of Rheumatiod Arthritis And Stroke
Pregnant women should avoid caffeine period. Studies show 300 mg of caffeine may cause:
- Miscarriage/Spontaneous Abortion
- Delivering a low baby birth weight
- 4 or more cups of coffee a day may increase your baby’s risk of SIDS.
I’m not going to give you all this bad news and not give you a solution. The alternative to coffee is tea, specifically green tea. Green tea is full of EGCG (Epigallocatechin-3- gallate or catechin). Catechin has numerous health promoting components.
- Improves Digestion
- Decreases Bacterial and viral Infections
- Decreases Impacts Of harmful fats and Oils On The Body.
- Protects Against Oxidation In Your Brain And Liver
- Supports Healthy Gums
- Increase Energy
- Increase Metabolism
EGCG also helps your body fight AIDS, Alzheimers and autoimmune disease and cancer.
Well I hope this article opened gave you some important information on coffee. I just want to say my goal isn’t to have people freaking out and throwing away all your coffee or milk. My goal is to provide you with information that makes you think and hopefully motivates you to look into things on your own because there is a whole lot of misinformation out there. So please don’t believe anything I say look it up for yourself then go from there.
