The Variety Studio: Sundance Edition Presented By Dawn Levy - Day 2 - 2014 Park City

Oscar-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his West Village apartment today at the age of 46, according to various reports. While the New York City Police Department and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have not yet issued an official cause of death, the New York Times is reporting that his death may have been the result of a drug overdose.

A law enforcement official spoke with the Times under the condition of anonymity, as it was unclear whether or not Hoffman’s family had yet been informed of his death.

The storied actor won an Academy Award for his role in the 2005 film “Capote” and was made famous by other roles including “The Big Lebowski” and “Magnolia”.

Our thoughts are with the actor’s family and friends during this difficult time.
