“Definition of a Champion: Someone who stands up one more time than they have been knocked down.”
~ Bishop Charles Blake
My mission in writing this blog is help remove the barriers and road blocks by sharing my personal lessons learned or observations to help you become good stewards over three areas of your life: Time, Talent and Treasure. The hope is that you would apply these success principles to all areas of your life. I could just teach you about how to manage your money, however I believe that that is one piece of what we need to know. If we are not disciplined in other areas of life when we achieve financial success or suddenly hit the jackpot we will blow right through our riches.
Do you ever wonder what separates winners and losers? It is pretty simple. Starting and Finishing. I like to refer to someone that likes to start something and not complete the goal, as someone that is a member of the Starters Club. I am sure we are all familiar with that club. I notice that the membership in the Finishers Club is much smaller. These are the group of people that start something and believe it or not make it to the finish line by achieving their goals. Remember there is a thin line between starting and finishing, the finishers get back up again and keep going until they get to the finishing line.
My goal for today is to get you to see that it does not matter how many times you experience defeats, that is all a part of the journey and allows you to grow stronger and wiser. Your goal is to get to the finish line.
Seeing Mars From Earth (Vision): Vision is the ability to see something in the future. Is your vision written down? It is important to write your vision by doing this you not to forget it and it also help you not to stray about from it. Another added benefit to writing it down is that you can tweak it as you discover new possibilities to achieve the results.
The Ability To Get Things Done (Execution): Execution is the carrying out of a plan. Did you know there are many ways to get things done? We often get stuck or paralyzed because we think that there is only one way to get things done. The honest true is that there are many ways to arrive at the same point. Think outside of the box but get it done.
Forward Pass (Completion): Completion is the process of finishing something. In football a forward pass is pass thrown from the line of scrimmage in a forward direction toward the opponent’s goal. (I could not resist it is football season.) A line of scrimmage is where it all goes down on the field, there is a struggle or a fight between the defense and offense and a completion is a successful forward pass. Let me get back on topic, my encouragement is to let you know that there will be struggles ahead however just pass the ball. Just like in the game of football, in life there are just as many attempts and completions that are made in the game before the game is over. However, in your own personal life you set the tone by determining if you will finish until the end.
Gold Standard (Excellence): Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. What are you doing to stand out from the crowd? Are you showing up to the meeting on time? Are you meeting deadlines or just making them? Are you leading or following the pack? Excellence is that little extra something that makes you stand out and memorable.
By now I think you realize that we are start off in the Starters Club but somewhere in the journey we decide that it is too hard and we throw in the towel and never make it to the Finishers Club. Look at your life I am sure that you have been in the Finishers Club before.
What club are you a member of? No matter where you are Starters or Finishers you are somewhere on the journey either just beginning or about to restart the journey again. Decide where you are and make a plan to dust yourself off and keep going.
Write down those things that you accomplish and remind yourself of what you accomplished. Sometimes we need to encourage ourselves and build our faith.
If you are at the point of the journey where you are feeling that you are ready to give up. I want to encourage you to keep fighting and don’t give up. There are many people who started late in life or kept on going when others stopped and made it to the Finishers Club. Here are a few examples:
-Albert Einstein did not speak until he was 4-years-old and did not read until he was 7. He did eventually learn to speak and read. Even to do a little math.
-Hank Aaron went 0 for 5 his first time at bat with the Milwakee Braves.
-Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he succeeded.
-R. H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York City caught on.
It is my desire that you are inspired to be good steward over these three areas of your life: Time, Talent, Treasure. Time, you must learn to manage your time; talent you have skills and gifts and lastly treasure, your finances need to managed appropriately. All of these areas work together, when they are managed properly you will be able to become A BETTER YOU!
