What is “Preachers of L.A.?” “Preachers of L.A.” is a new reality TV series set to debut on Oxygen in the fall of 2013. According to a press release, “Preachers of L.A.” is a “rare glimpse into the lives of six high-profile pastors from Los Angeles,” and the cast runs the gamut from a former professional skateboarder to the brother of actress and musician Grace Jones.

In addition to its intriguing cast, “Preachers of L.A.” boasts a production team that includes Lemuel Plummer, the creator and executive producer of BET’s “Vindicated,” and Holly Carter, the woman behind “106 & Gospel.” The pair has previously collaborated on “The Sheards,” which debuted in April 2013.
That answers the question “What is ‘Preachers of L.A.’?” but viewers might still be wondering why, exactly, they should devote their time to yet another reality show. As per the Oxygen press release, the profiled pastors are “rock stars in their communities, with a fresh, unique perspective that will resonate with a young audience.”

The “Preachers of L.A.” cast includes Bishop Noel Jones (the aforementioned brother of Grace), a Jamaican-born self-made success looking for a successor for his business; Deitrick Haddon, a musician and songwriter whose life and career were rocked by a divorce scandal; Bishop Clarence McClendon, who reaches an audience of 250 million people each week with his international broadcast; Pastor Wayne Chaney, a young up-and-comer whose Antioch ministry is poised to become a “mega-church”; Bishop Ron Gibson, a former Crip who’s grown his Life Church of God in Christ flock from nine to 4,500; and Pastor Jay Haizlip, an Alabama-born former pro skater who overcame drugs to lead the Sanctuary of Huntington Beach.
“What is ‘Preachers of L.A.’?” Something new, according to Holly Carter.
“It’s a dose of reality and a pound of redemption coming from a creative team reared in the church,” she says.
