First we see the return to the heart strings with Steel Magnolias.The “Steel Magnolias” story is timeless because it really focuses on the relationship between women.Joining Latifah on screen are Alfre Woodard as the cranky Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine’s role), Phylicia Rashad as her sidekick Clairee (Olympia Dukakis’ role) and Rashad’s real-life daughter Condola Rashad as M’Lynn’s daughter Shelby, the role originated by Julia Roberts. Jill Scott plays Truvy (Dolly Parton’s role), the owner of the salon where the women come together, and her assistant Annelle, originally played by Daryl Hannah, is portrayed by “Pariah” star Adepero Oduye.
Thursday evening will bring back a tale as old as time. Not exactkly your Disney version but, “Beauty & The Beast” takes a seat. This remake of the Beauty and the Beast, the 1987-’90 series that starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman as a lawyer and “lion-man” making New York a better,is hipper, faster and sleeker. It is worth viewing a few episodes.
